Today, July 27, was the day we came for … Len’s sister Helen and husband John’s 40th wedding anniversary. And so, after four days sightseeing in Singapore and our round island tour yesterday, we decided to, unusually for us, have a rest day. We should do it more often!
It started with a slow lazy breakfast chatting to various family members who were sitting at our table or at neighbouring ones. (There are 14 of us across three generations here for the celebration). The rest of the day, until the evening festivity, was spent catching up with computer work, exploring the resort, spotting various family members in the pool, and having a light leisurely lunch in the resort’s frangipani-framed Sea Breeze restaurant. Hard to beat having a tasty Thai dish with a Kir Royale while watching the equally lazy, or the energetic, doing their things on the beach or in the water.
The anniversary festivities were to take place in the little sala Thai (a gazebo, Thai-style) in the hotel grounds, with drinks to be taken outside first. Light rain dampened – ha – drinks a little but, with two large umbrellas (one handheld by a staff member which embarrassed us all a little), we stayed dry, before moving into the tastefully decorated sala for dinner. It was a delicious Thai banquet-style meal, with cake and fresh fruit at the end. The rain stopped, enabling the staff to safely transport the food from the main building across the grounds to us. It all went beautifully – though, Liz and Sean, parents of the youngest member of the party, 9-month-old Xavier, had to tag team it a bit once we hit his bed-time.
The evening ended indoors where we danced, relaxed and watched Finn (nearly 6) and Addie (just 4) enjoy the hotel’s gorgeous – appearance and personality-wise – house singer.
All in all a lovely day concluding in a fun celebration.
We must admit that 48 hours in, we haven’t yet dipped our toes in the water … but watch this space, it may still happen.
Chilling out, celebrating, and dancing …

Wow – the Turner family know how to enjoy themselves and the Wherry family know how to join in. Glad to hear, and see, that you had such a wonderful celebration. The gazebo looks wonderful, as does its setting. Beautiful seascape – all just lovely. Thanks for a great coverage in word and pictures.
Thanks LL … It was a fun evening as you can see, though surely I’m not quite the whale the video seems to make me? Though, perhaps after all this high life we are living, I am!
Congratulations to Helen and John on their 40th, and may they have many more Happy Anniversaries to come! What a wonderful way to celebrate!
Thanks Mary … It was inspired I think, though Helen knew her children would love it as they all love beaches. They are much better Aussies than Len and I are.
Everyone is so gorgeous! Love, love, love. xo
Thanks Hannah … As you can see it was a fun night.
Wonderful videos and your crowd can really move it. Len and Sue please teach me to dance next time you are in SoCal. The key to avoiding a bad sunburn in the sea tomorrow is to slather on lots of suncreen, put on a hat and get into the water as fast as you can. Get on out past the waves and bobble around in the sea and when you get out of the water, don’t linger on the beach very long. Ha ha. Happy swimming.
Thanks for all that advice Carolyn … And just remind us about the dancing!
