… which means, roughly,” I’m leaving but am coming back” (though of course I mean “we’re” leaving!)
What a good day it is to leave! It turned cold, grey and rainy in Canberra overnight, with today’s maximum being just 12°C. The rain is good, of course, but we are very happy for it to rain while we are away. The garden will be thrilled, and hopefully the rain will reach the bushfires up north. However, the rain did play havoc with our departure from Canberra. Fortunately, we’d given ourselves a big gap between that flight and the Japan flight so were not perturbed. It’s nice not to feel stressed when you are travelling!
We are expecting to be pretty frazzled by the time we get to our first Japanese hotel as we have a long, tiring night-and-day before we get to Awaji Island. You may not get anything sensible from us tomorrow. We’ll see.
We do need to clarify one thing, however. We are not going to Japan for the World Cup, which is not to say that there’s anything wrong with going to the World Cup – travelling for a specific interest is a great thing – it’s just that, contrary to some people’s assumptions, we’re not! Indeed, we didn’t even know the World Cup was on when we booked in January. We soon learnt, though, because finding flights wasn’t easy.
Anyhow, this is just a “we’re on our way” post. Expect some real travel posts in the very near future.
I have a very dear couple of friends who live up Woy Woy way, and was told by SMS today that they couldn’t use their phones to call as there wasn’t enough signal because of storm and hail and all that stuff ! Sounds like yous sent your weather up there, you vile creatures.
I wouldn’t go to the World Cup either, as Baggio hasn’t been playing since … [thinks] ’91, I believe …
I do hope your flights weren’t terrifying !
Thanks M-R, fortunately for us the flights to Sydney were delayed but only lightly bumpy, which was a relief.
I have no idea who Baggio is, so you’re one ahead of me.
Safe travels!
Thanks Lisa
itte rasshai! Go and come back safely. Are you going all of the way to Awaji Island in one trip? I went there eons ago when there were ferries but no bridge. Looking forward to hearing all of the details.
Ah thanks Carolyn, we thought it wasn’t quite right. We need you by our sides.
And yes we are! Read all about it in the next post.
Ah now we understand, that itte rasshai is the reply. So we didn’t get it that wrong afterall?
Allow me to be the first to comment! When actually did you emplaned in Canberra? It appears the weather in Sydney was playing havoc with flight in and out. You seem to have chosen a good time to get away from the south eastern states.
Hope you are having a good flight. Love, Mum.
Funnily Mum, we left pretty much on the original 1pm schedule (not the delayed 2.15pm time we’d been given) because the Qantas people offered to move us onto the delayed 11.15am flight! Of course if we ever dare to ask to be put on an earlier flight because we’ve got there earlier than expected Xhey never will, or they want to charge us.
Bon voyage! Happy Flight! Kick back, breathe deeply, and anticipate the upcoming adventure.
I, personally, have assumed nothing about your flight. Of course, that just means I am ill informed about the World Cup. I am just excited for the chance to travel with and hear from you two
Wherry travelers. =) Just seeing your smiling faces at the top of the page warms my heart.
I can hardly believe “we” are off to visit some with friends in Japan! I have a friend who lives in Tokyo with his wife and two young children. He used to work with us in my office in California. Enjoy your friends and your travels and thank you for including me in another of your wonderful “shares”!
Hope your flight is roomy and lovely.
Thanks Trudy, of course we’d include you in our travels. Thanks for the good wishes. My next post will tell about our trip.
